Art Show and Auction

The Oklacon Art Show and Auction showcases not only well-known Guest of Honor artists, but fantastic local talent, perhaps unknown on the national scene. Like most other events at Oklacon, the art show and auction is relatively informal, but we do pride ourselves as a convention that strongly supports new and upcoming artists through venues such as the Art Show and Auction, which provide an opportunity for fresh talent to connect with a friendly, local audience.

Why display work at Oklacon? Oklacon is a very different type of furry convention. The first and largest outdoor furry convention in the United States, Oklacon attracts a large number of fresh new faces each year, registrants who are calling Oklacon their very first furry convention, as well as a loyal, broad base of returning patrons. This bimodal distribution of young, impressionable furs eager to experience the wide assortment of styles and media as well as a foundation of seasoned buyers of artwork who come with cash to spend, particularly when it or a part of it is for charity are a powerful venue for any aspiring artist.

The Art Show lists both Not For Sale (NFS) pieces for display of talent as well as pieces available for bid. Bidding in the Oklacon Art Show is in a silent auction format, with all pieces receiving four silent auction bids going to a voice auction near the end of the convention. As Oklacon is primarily a charity event, all sales are charged a 10% commission which is automatically donated to Safari's Interactive Animal Sanctuary in the name of Oklacon on behalf of the seller. We have found that most artists enjoy success when submitting original work, not prints or limited edition prints, and particularly when that work resonates either with Oklacon itself, the convention theme for the year, or general interests of those in the Southwestern United States.

This show is reserved for artists to display works they have created or collaborated to create. This show is not a general resale venue of work created by others. Oklacon can receive mailed in works for the art show, but shipping and return shipping and packaging materials are the responsibilty of the submitting artist. To get started, complete the Art Show and Auction Agreement, and contact us for further instructions to join the ranks of artists such as Blotch, EbonyTigress, Goldenwolf, Myenia, and Sandra Santara who have participated in the Oklacon Art Show.
